Uses Broadband Technology To Improve Security Surveillance And Efficiency
Wonderland in Sydney, the amusement and Entertainment Park, has recently deployed a broadband enabled security system.
The new system allows the security team to monitor the park in real-time and sends triggered alerts via email and SMS if an area of the site is accessed when it shouldn't be. This allows Wonderland's security team to respond more quickly and efficiently.
Developed by Surelabs, the solution has improved the park's overall security and has eradicated the need for time consuming, 24/7 video surveillance.
Background Historically, Wonderland used a standard video surveillance system that recorded images from security cameras deployed around the park. Whilst effective, this system often proved cumbersome and time consuming, especially when the security team was required to track back to historical footage to find particular events.
In addition to view live images, or recorded images, individuals needed to make their way down to where the monitors where located and search through tape after tape.
As a result, Wonderland's security team identified the need to implement a solution that would offer the security team more flexibility when they wanted to view the park's cameras and also wanted a system that would enable the team to respond to any potential security breaches more rapidly.
Project Details Wonderland has deployed a digital video surveillance solution or MDVR (Monitored Digital Video Recording,) that was developed by Surelabs, an Australian based designer and manufacturer of video security software solutions.
The system enables Wonderland's security team to view any one of the parks sixteen surveillance cameras at anytime and from anywhere.
"The cameras monitor areas that have varying levels of security, for example our IT area requires a higher level of security than one of our retail outlets. As a result we have worked with Surelabs to set triggers for each of these areas based on the level of security that we need.
"As our IT department is a high security area, if anyone enters that location, or the sensors detect any movement, the cameras will begin recording and an SMS and email will be simultaneously sent to security. Using broadband we can then instantly view that location to check that the person entering is authorized to be there," comments Tyron Mangakahia, Asset Security Manager, Wonderland Sydney.
Results And Benefits "The Surelabs surveillance system at Wonderland demonstrates the tangible business benefits of broadband for businesses. By taking advantage of mobile and broadband convergence, Surelabs have created a truly end-to-end and cost effective solution."
"Wonderland's security team are now able to view either the live or recorded camera footage in real-time. They can also view the footage from their own offices or from their homes, when it is convenient, or necessary for them to do so," commented Lisa Tuffs, Ericsson General Manager, Mobility Solutions.
In addition, the benefits of the video surveillance system have also been realized outside of the security team.
There are clear benefits for the local police, as now when an alarm is triggered at Wonderland, security staff has all the information at their fingertips to inform the police if they do need to attend.
The footage is also being utilized by Wonderland as an effective management tool, as it provides information to department managers on customer and staffing levels. This enables the management team to implement a more effective staff roster for each department – and thus in some cases improve customer service.
The hospitality team is also using the new surveillance system. They cater for tour guides whilst they are on a break, or for coach drivers whilst their passengers are in the park. Prior to the installation of the system Wonderland was loosing nearly $64k a year from unauthorized people entering the hospitality area and stealing food. Now the hospitality team receives an email or SMS alert when someone approaches the food table. They can then check who the person is and more importantly make sure that the food is restocked so that they don't run out.
Future Plans The ability to view live Surelabs Surveillance System camera images directly from a mobile phone via the Internet is a reality now. Looking to the near future, Wonderland intends to also receive triggered image alerts via MMS, so they'll have an instant visual from the triggered camera, which could then be sent onto the police if necessary.
In addition, Surelabs intend to capitalise on the benefits offered by 3G technology. The real-time video calling functionality would allow Surelabs to push out real-time and live video surveillance footage straight to the mobile.
